Clouds Over Sidra is the first in what is planned to be a series of films demonstrating global development challenges through unique virtual reality immersion films. The United Nations Millennium Campaign aims for this initiative to bring the experiences of vulnerable communities straight to decision makers, thereby creating deeper empathy and understanding. This is the first time virtual reality has been use by the United Nation.
This is in line with the United Nations Millennium Campaign’s efforts to elevate the voices of those who often do not have a say, bringing peoples’ voices directly into the decision making process. The series covers a wide range of development priorities already highlighted in UNMC initiatives such as MY World and the World We Want, using the words of those who are most directly affected to illustrate what these development priorities mean to them.
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon experiences virtual reality film, Clouds Over Sidra
Continuous evidence has pointed to the fact that global development goals will not be achieved unless we concentrate on helping and building resilience in the most vulnerable communities. This is now the time to listen and act, and the UNMC is in the process of ensuring these films are well placed in forums so as to influence both decision makers and the general public.
